The vision is much more…we want to eventually establish an academy for girls where they are safe to learn and experience their dreams of higher education. The model has already been established with what Oprah is doing in Africa. She has paved the way for others to follow. By establishing a similar infrastructure right here in Washington State we hope to encourage others in the United States to follow the lead and begin building for the future of America.
O Wines is only the start…we intend to host charitable auctions, fund raisers, and events geared toward community involvement for the scholarship funds.

O Wines Partners with the SMILE Program at Oregon State University |
On July 1, 2009, Kathy and Stacy signed a contract with Oregon State University’s SMILE (Science and Math Integrated Learning Experience) program to fund 5 scholarships for the next 5 years! 25 young college bound students will get the “Opportunity” for financial assistance toward their college endeavors. The SMILE program functions as a "pipeline", taking students from 4th to 12th grade and ultimately into post-secondary education through mentorship!
|
|
 |
The SMILE Program conducts a year-round schedule of activities designed to provide hands-on science experience, strengthen students' knowledge, and raise students' academic and career aspirations. OSU resource faculty and The SMILE Program professional staff provide scientific and pedagogic expertise, access to equipment, mentoring, computer networking, teacher training, and administrative support; the schools provide energetic students and dedicated teachers.
It’s truly an honor to begin this long and fruitful partnership with OSU and the SMILE program! Welcome aboard the learning train with O wines!
For more information about this program please check out their website: http://smile.oregonstate.edu/aboutUs_index.htm
As we meet the new students we will be providing updates on our home page…
